You awaken to find yourself tied up on a carriage surrounded by prisoners, led by the Imperial Army on horseback. The Imperial Army have sentenced you for Execution, labelled as a Stormcloak Rebel. You are called to the front and asked your name, this is where the fun begins.
Players of previous Elder Scrolls games will know, character customisation is deep. You can choose from a number of Races including Nord (The Nords call Skyrim home and make up the Army of Stormcloaks), Imperial (from Cyrial the Capital of the invading Empire) , Orc (dual weapon wielding menace), a number of different magical Elf breeds, plus more including half Cat creatures called the Khajiit. Each with their own special starting abilities, unique to their race. Full customisation of your look including scars and face paint is essential to making the game unique to you as a player. You then name your character and the story continues.
early in the game you are given the feeling that this is YOUR story and the decisions you make are yours and yours alone
As you watch the executioner remove the head of the prisoner in front of you, you are called up and asked to place your head down on the block. Surely this can not be the end of our hero so soon into your journey you Ask yourself? Of course not, out of nowhere you hear a roar in the distance as panic flows through the characters around you and then you see it. A massive Black Dragon. Fierce and full of rage, it starts to lay waste to the Town of Helena and it’s people and so your Story begins.
After following one of the Imperial Soldiers through the flames and dead bodies, you are given a choice. Do you side with the Imperials who were about to chop off your head for a crime you never committed, or do you follow the Stormcloak rebels? In a way it doesn’t matter, as you still get the same choice later on in the game, however early in the game you are given the feeling that this is YOUR story and the decisions you make are yours and yours alone. Who will you side with in the quest to save Skyrim?!
For me this Game has it all. Dragons, epic battles and every weapon from that time era you can imagine. From the Bow and Arrow, to the Sword or Mace, magic spells and summons and much much more. You can choose to be a warrior with an Axe or an Elf with a Staff, it’s entirely up to you which path you choose. From customising weapons to making potions and paying for a room to sleep for the night at an Inn, it has the full adventure with that little bit of extra detail to give it you that full immersive experience. (you can even get married and build houses with the DLC).
The map is massive, teaming with activities, wildlife, townsfolk and quests. You start your journey to becoming the “Dragonborn” which sees you fighting Dragons and consuming their souls to unlock Dragon shout abilities. Crypts and underground caves, filled with monsters and foes of all shapes and sizes are everywhere to be found (and don’t forget the treasures buried deep within). These vary in difficulty and finding them all can take up hours of gameplay alone.
You can join a Thieves guild which grants you specific missions, from forging numbers at shops to burglary. These were some of my favorite parts of the game, breaking into houses for certain items, where you must first pick the lock of a door without being caught by the Guards, who will happily throw you in Prison! But don’t worry, Prison has one of the many trophies you can achieve by escaping from there too! There is also and Assassins Guild and a Magic guild. You name it, this Game really has it all.
Do you have what it takes to become DRAGONBORN? The battle for Skyrim has begun and awaits a new Champion!
